I LOVE DESARU NEWSLETTER ISSUE NO. 6 (THE DRY ISSUE)

September 2006

EDITOR'S NOTE

We were bored to death. It has been weeks since most of us got any ride and life seems meaningless and without purpose. As we wander the concrete land scavenging for thrills, our heads dream still of those gone but unforgotten rides. But like waiting for a lover's return, its just a matter of time. O monsoon, come back soon!

Here we take a look back at what some of us had done during the dry season.. Not much, I must say.

SURFER MAXY SUFFERS CHEST INFECTION

During this dry period, Max has joined the alqaeda airline whose motto is "fly with the best, die like the rest". As a result of it, early August he was diagnosed with an infection on the chest and doctor advised that he should not perspire for a day or two and hence banned from all sweat-inducing activities. A dressing was promptly administered on the affected area. When probed further on what exactly he was suffering from, Max coyly said, "It's a just chest pore that got infected." Thankfully the doctor had cleared the pus out. We guess it could be a case of ingrown chest hair.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO ANDI'S WALLET

His car window was smashed, his surfboard was broken, now Andi had to lose his wallet too. On his way back after a September Bali more-sleeping in-than-surfing-holiday, he lost his wallet at the airport. His lost includes a Comme des Garcons black wallet, a thick stash of hard cash and some other bits.
Asked why he carried so much cash in his wallet he said, "I just don't like to use credit card. I always carry spare cash with me when I travel. And that trip was not a budget trip!" Understandably grumpy, he muttered: "I have no f***ing mood to do anything now!"

RUMOUR HAS IT

The lack of wave has caused some of us to be very frustrated. Even though there were rumours of surf in late September, apparently they were just "some mini fun waves", according to Keith who went up to Sedili. Ian too decided to head up but in his anticipation had had trouble sleeping the night before. He thus decided to drive up really early in the morning. Unfortunately when he reached the spot at six a.m., the "waves were really small". Disillusioned, he decided to sleep in till midday and then drove back. Cik Din's comment: "Frustrating"

SURF TRIPS

Erik Arakawa is in Byron Bay right now visiting his chick. All he got to say was that "the wave was damn good!!!! And I have good time with my gal!"
